CELLPHONES: A civil rights issue

| February 7, 2025 1:00 AM

The Coeur d’Alene School District had better be very careful about banning or restricting the use of cellphones at school. In the early 1980s SCOTUS ruled that the ownership and use of electronic communication equipment falls under first amendment protection.

Personally, I think cellphones have no place in the classroom. But to prevent students from using them outside from the classroom could get the district in a lot of trouble. Civil rights don’t start when you become an adult, you have them from birth.
