Charles Morrison Roeth, 94

| February 5, 2025 1:00 AM

Charles “Chuck” Morrison Roeth, 94, peacefully went to be with Jesus on the morning of Jan. 28, 2025, at his home in Rathdrum, Idaho. Born on July 30, 1930, to Charles Ferdinand Beach Roeth and Margaret Herriott Morrison Roeth in Berkeley, Calif. After graduating high school, Chuck enlisted in the U.S. Navy, service beginning in 1948 as an aviation metalsmith. He was deployed during the Korean War and was honorably discharged at the rank of First-Class Petty Officer in 1952.

Chuck later attended college at UC Berkeley with a degree in mechanical engineering and worked for Louisiana Pacific and Georgia Pacific lumber mills, designing machinery and supervising operations in the states of California, Idaho and Montana.

He married Janet “Jan” Mae Lockhart on Sept. 24, 1966. Chuck enjoyed deer hunting over the years and the running joke was that he captured his “dear,” marrying her on the opening day of deer season. Chuck and Jan had two daughters, Jennifer Raye and Gretchen Elizabeth, before leaving California and moving to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1971. They enjoyed years of camping, fishing, boating and skiing, always enjoying the outdoors.

In his spare time, Chuck enjoyed woodworking, and his talent came to life in the projects he would complete, which included furniture and particularly useful items to make life easier around the house. He would search out places in the forest during the summer, looking for premium firewood, bringing his daughters along, who didn’t always share his passion for the task but were always willing to help.

As a couple, Chuck and Jan enjoyed going out to eat and, listening to classical music and attending symphony concerts, especially the Royal Fireworks Concert in River Front Park in July.

Chuck was a dedicated Christian man, attending church regularly with his family and concluding attendance at Calvary Chapel Lighthouse in Hayden.

He is survived by his wife, Jan, and his daughters, Jennifer of Coeur d’Alene and Gretchen of Rathdrum, Brian Barile of Boise, Idaho, and Ariana Smith of Kansas City, Mo.

A celebration of life service will be held Feb. 15, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Calvary Chapel Lighthouse located at 650 W. Lancaster Road, Hayden, ID 83835. 208-762-3777.
