KELLOGG — It was a night where, at first, the Wildcats didn’t have their best stuff.

Thanks to some extra time, they found it when they needed it.

Kellogg junior Draeden Taylor nine of his team-high 16 points in the fourth quarter and overtime for the Kellogg Wildcats in a 53-50 win over the Orofino Maniacs in Central Idaho League play at Andrews Gymnasium on Saturday.

Kellogg trailed 10-4 after the first quarter and by as many as 15 in the first half before rallying.

“Brodie (Robinson) was able to convert an and-1 and cut the deficit to 10 at halftime,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “It was a pretty big momentum shift. I’m just proud of the guys for competing. Orofino did a good job of making it difficult and we had to weather that early storm. We’ve been in a lot of close games, so it was nice to be on the right end of one. It’s really a testament to how far they’ve come.”

Senior Brodie Robinson scored 14 points for Kellogg (9-6, 4-2 CIL), which travels to St. Maries on Tuesday.

Sophomore Blake Barlow scored 20 points for Orofino (3-12, 2-5).

The game was also a fundraiser for Vivian Bourgard, a Kellogg student that is battling Leukemia.

“It was super cool for the community to come together and support this cause,” Martin said. “To see them come together for the family was really cool to see.”

"We wanted to push the tempo and have been working on a lot of transition offense ... I thought we did a good job tonight of executing that, which created some easy looks early on and helped us get into our press and force some turnovers."

Sophomore Gage Smith had 14 points for Grangeville (4-12, 0-6).

Priest River was originally scheduled to play Clark Fork on Tuesday — the Spartans be sending their junior varsity team there instead. Priest River will return to action Wednesday when the Spartans host the 4A top-ranked Badgers of Bonners Ferry.
