Sarah May Rohel, 100

Sarah M Rohel, 100, passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025, on Camano Island, Wash. She was born Dec. 24, 1924, in Grand Rapids, Mich.

She is survived by her son, William Rohel; daughter Patrice and husband Stephen Arnold; three grandsons: Ryan (Jaime) Arnold, Garrett (Skye) Arnold, and Gavin Rohel; and one great-grandson, Jackson Arnold. She also had many nieces and nephews she was very close to.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, of 58 years; her siblings: Dena, Anthony (Marge), Charles (Ruth) and Lawrence (June); and William’s siblings: Fred (Eleanor) Rohel and Jack (Helen) Senft.

She spent her life spreading joy and compassion to everyone around her. She was known for her stunning stained-glass creations, especially her beautiful lamps. She touched the lives of many through her artistry and warm, giving nature. Some other hobbies included knitting, needlepoint and painting. She loved to fish on yearly trips to Canada.

She grew up in Michigan, on a fruit farm. She and Bill raised their family in Glen Ellyn, Ill., before retiring to Spring Hill, Fla., and then to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Along the way, she was a secretary in many areas, but her passion was travel and became a corporate travel agent.

While living in Coeur d’Alene, she was an active member of 3Cs and TOPS. She enjoyed their activities and all the friends she made along the way.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025, at Yates Funeral Home — Hayden Chapel (373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, ID 83835).

Private interment will follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.
