PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Trojans clamp down defensively, beat Lake City

| February 1, 2025 1:15 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Ellie McGowan scored nine of her 11 points in the second half for the Post Falls Trojans in a 55-35 win over the Lake City Timberwolves in an Inland Empire League game at Lake City High on Friday.

“We’ve got a lot of respect for Lake City,” Post Falls coach Mike Divilbiss said. “Those kids played hard and I’m proud of our girls. They’ve done a great job of staying together and improving and growing. I think they continue that.”

Junior Kailey Walton had 11 points, senior Myckenzee Mitley 10 points for Post Falls (7-14, 4-4 IEL), which hosts Lake City (7-13, 2-5) in the 6A District 1 loser-out game on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. That winner will face Coeur d’Alene in a best-of-3 series starting next Saturday at Coeur d’Alene High.

“We got a lot of contributions from different people tonight,” Divilbiss said. “Ellie was really good and I think it was a really good effort. Jaya really helped us off the bench. Our scoring was really balanced, but feel our defense played really hard. We were really solid defensively all night.”

Sophomore Macy Murphey and senior Sadie Zimmerman scored eight points each for Lake City, which hosts Moscow to conclude the regular season today.
