PREP SOFTBALL: Blood, Gugino shine for Lake City on senior day

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Maddy Blood struck out 11 and pitched a three-hitter, and senior Layla Gugino homered and drove in six runs as the Lake City Timberwolves beat the Timberlake Tigers 15-1 on senior day at Lake City on Tuesday. 

Blood also went 3 for 3 with three RBIs for Lake City (15-7-1), including a two-run homer in the second inning. 

Gugino, who has signed with Montana, hit a three-run homer in a nine-run second inning, a two-run single in the fourth and a sacrifice fly in the first. 

Senior Aaliyah Lopez was 3 for 3 with a two-run double in the second. Junior Karsyn DeMent hit a two-run homer in the third. 

Freshman Shae Jones, Timberlake’s star pitcher, missed the game with walking pneumonia, Tigers coach Casi Lupinacci said. 

Timberlake (13-3) plays host to Bonners Ferry today at 4 p.m. in their regular season and Intermountain League finale. 

Second-seeded Lake City plays host to third-seeded Post Falls on Saturday at noon in the loser-out first-round of the 6A District 1 tournament. The winner advances to play top-seeded Coeur d’Alene in a best-of-3 series for the district title starting next Tuesday.

POST FALLS — Senior Sienna Williams, who has signed with Whitworth, went 5 for 8 with five RBIs and five runs scored on the day as the Trojans swept the Badgers on senior day. 

Rylan Morrison struck out 11 and pitched a two-hitter in the opener for Post Falls (9-9). Junior McKenna Zimmerman had three hits and drove in five runs for the Trojans.  

Bonners Ferry is 7-9. 

Post Falls travels to Sandpoint on Thursday for an Inland Empire League doubleheader to wrap up the regular season.

MOSCOW — The Inland Empire League doubleheader was postponed and rescheduled for today at 3 and 5 p.m. at the Moscow School District Community Playfields.

ST. MARIES — The host Lumberjacks led 6-1 after two innings, but the Maniacs took the lead with seven runs in the top of the fifth and went on to win in a game for the Central Idaho League title at City Park. 

Madie Thomas homered and Addilynn Turner and Danika Sloper had RBI singles as St. Maries (13-8, 9-3 CIL) took a 4-1 lead after the first. 

Orofino is 13-7, 10-2. 

On Friday, second-seeded St. Maries will play host to third-seeded Grangeville (12-10, 8-4), and top-seeded Orofino will be home vs. Thursday’s Priest River-Kellogg game, both at 4 p.m.
