PREP TRACK AND FIELD: Post Falls senior Van Volkinburg doubles at Walla Walla invite

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Post Falls High senior Chloe Van Volkinburg won the 200-meter dash in 25.66 seconds, then won the 400 in 57.99 at the Legends Twilight Invitational on Saturday at Dave Klicker Track at Walla Walla High. 

“Chloe had a great day today with a PR in the 400,” Post Falls coach Wade Quesnell said. “Every single one of our distance kids PR’d and we had a lot of kids do well.” 

In the boys 400, Post Falls senior Cobe Cameron won in 49.15 seconds, followed by senior Trenton McLean in third (50.45) and senior Tallan McCracken sixth (50.98), leading the Trojans to a fourth-place finish. The Trojans' 4x400 relay team of McLean, McCracken, Cameron and Giovanni Carlino won in a school-record 3:20.37, passing the previous mark set at state by the foursome last year. 

“I’m really proud of the kids,” Quesnell said. “We woke up at 6 a.m. and came down here and had a really good meet.” 

Post Falls senior Rhett Owens won the boys ambulatory long jump at 14-11. 

Lakeland sophomore Sapphire Ruelle was second in the 100 (12.88) and 200 (25.91). 

Owhyee of Meridian (boys) and Capital of Boise (girls) won team titles.

Coeur d'Alene distance runners compete

at Nike Twilight meet in Oregon

PORTLAND — Coeur d’Alene High senior Max Cervi-Skinner was 15th out of 19 runners in the elite 1-mile race at the Nike Twilight Meet at Jesuit High. 

Cervi-Skinner, who signed to run cross country and track and field at Wake Forest, finished in 4 minutes, 13.79 seconds. Senior Zack Cervi-Skinner, also a Wake Forest signee, was 16th in 4:14.66. 

Max Cervi-Skinner was also 15th out of 19 in the 1,600-meter in 4:12.25, followed by Zack Cervi-Skinner (4:12.91) in 16th. 

Senior Josiah Tostenson of Crater High in Central Point, Ore., won the 1 mile (4:00.69) and 1,600 (3:59.25). 


Priest River boys win 

at Newport meet


NEWPORT, Wash. — Priest River senior Brayden Lamanna (1,6000, sprint medley) and Carter Korff (sprint medley, long jump) and junior Ian Lamanna (sprint medley, pole vault) had multiple wins to lead the Spartan boys to the team title at the Barry Sartz Memorial Relays at Don K. Ellersick Memorial Field. 

Priest River's boys won with 117.5 points, followed by Riverside of Chattaroy, Wash., with 100.5. 

Riverside won the girls team title with 126.67 points.

Brown-Sonder sixth in 

discus at Troy invite

TROY — Lakeside junior Archer Brown-Sonder was the top local finisher in the boys discus, finishing sixth with a throw of 99 feet, 7 inches at the Troy Invitational. 

Lakeside junior Cassidy Gorr was eighth in the discus (68-5) and ninth in the shot put (24-2 ½).
