PREP SOFTBALL: Jones' no-no caps Timberlake sweep

BONNERS FERRY — Freshman Shae Jones struck out 21 in a one-hitter in the first game, then fanned 16 in a six-inning no-hitter in the nightcap, as the Timberlake Tigers swept the Bonners Ferry Badgers 7-1 and 15-0 in Intermountain League play Friday. 

Jones walked three in the opener, and Timberlake (13-2, 2-0 IML) committed two errors.  

In the second game, Jones walked two in her second no-hitter of the season, and the Tigers had one error. 

The lone hit she allowed on the day came on a two-out single in the third inning of the opener. 

“Shae dominated the first game; she recorded every out on her own,” Timberlake coach Casi Lupinacci said. “We were able to string a few hits together and pull ahead. Alannah Winland hit the ball extremely well all day long. As a team we collectively hit better the second game.”

Jones went 3 for 4 with an RBI and run scored in the opener, and Winland and Reese Allaway each had two doubles. Allaway had two RBIs, Winland one. 

In the second game, Jones went 3 for 5 with four RBIs. Allaway was 4 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored, and Sadie Green was 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. 

Bonners is 5-6, 0-2. 

Timberlake travels to Lake City on Tuesday for a doubleheader.

St. Maries 8-11

GRANGEVILLE — Addyson Stewart homered in both games and was the winning pitcher in both as the visiting Lumberjacks swept the Bulldogs to move into a tie for first in the Central Idaho League with one league game remaining. 

St. Maries (13-7, 9-2 CIL) is tied for first with Orofino (12-7, 9-2), which swept Kellogg on Friday. Grangeville (11-10, 8-4) dropped from first to third. 

St. Maries plays host to Orofino on Tuesday to decide the league title and the top seed to the 3A District 1-2 tournament later next week. 

In the first game Friday, Stewart hit a solo homer in the first inning, and Addilyn Turner and Brenna Elliott delivered two-run singles in the third. 

In the second game, Addilyn Turner went 3 for 4 with a solo homer and four RBIs for St. Maries. Stewart hit a two-run homer and finished with three RBIs. 

Stewart struck out six, walked two and scattered six hits in the first game. 

“I liked our bats; they hit the ball awesome,” said St. Maries coach Lane Stewart, who also praised the defense of Stewart in the circle and Madie Thomas in center field.

KELLOGG — Malena Munoz had three hits and two RBIs on the day for the Wildcats, who were swept by the Maniacs in CIL play at Kellogg Middle School.  

Orofino is 12-7, 9-2. 

Kellogg (3-16, 3-9) is the fourth seed to the 3A District 1-2 tournament, and will play host to No. 5 Priest River (0-14, 0-12) in a loser-out game Thursday.
