Memorial for Sgt. Moore set for May 5
A memorial scheduled next month will mark the 10th anniversary of the line-of-duty death of Coeur d'Alene Police Sgt. Greg Moore.
"The loss of Sergeant Moore is still felt by his family and friends and the men and women who served with him," a press release said. "Many citizens in our community who were impacted by his dedicated service also remember him. Sergeant Moore will forever be part of the Coeur d’Alene Police Department family."
Moore was on patrol in a residential neighborhood south of Prairie Avenue and near Atlas Road on May 5, 2015, when he was shot in the head in the early by Jonathan Renfro. Renfro is serving a life prison sentence.
In honor of Sgt. Moore, the Coeur d’Alene Police Department will be having a private graveside memorial with his family and the members of the Coeur d’Alene Police Department at 8:30 a.m.
When the gravesite memorial has concluded, expected to be about 9:30 a.m., the family and members of the Coeur d’Alene Police Department will move by procession to the Sgt. Greg Moore Memorial at McEuen Park for a public memorial.
The procession will begin at Forest Cemetery on Government Way and travel south to Northwest Boulevard. Vehicles will travel east on Sherman Avenue to Seventh Street, south on Seventh to Front Avenue and west on Front, stopping near Fourth Street.
The public is welcome to line the procession route. Citizens are also invited to be at McEuen Park during the public memorial.
Chief Lee White and Lt. Johann Schmitz will say a few words during the memorial, "as we take time to remember Sergeant Moore’s life and dedicated service," the release said.
