Larry Dean Goodson, 76

| April 26, 2025 1:00 AM

Larry Dean Goodson, of Rose Lake, passed away March 23, 2025, at Deaconess Hospital. He was born Jan. 2, 1949, in Kellogg, Idaho, to Leah and Rex Goodson. He was the youngest of seven children.

He began hunting and fishing at an early age. He would continue both of these throughout his lifetime.

He enlisted to serve in Vietnam after graduating from Kootenai High School and completing one year at NIC. These two years would profoundly affect him forever. For his heroism and valor, he received the Purple Heart, two bronze stars with oak leaf clusters and numerous other badges and medals.

He logged for a while after returning to the mountains of Idaho. Hunting big game, ducks and geese with his dog, Dakota, was a favorite pastime. Fishing is where he found the most peace. He would fish wherever he went, during every season. He smoked or canned them and loved having friends over for a fish fry. He loved the outdoor life: cutting firewood for the winter, picking huckleberries in late summer or cranberries in the fall. He also enjoyed his and Evelynh's garden in Spokane. They would make salsa and zucchini bread together.

In 2013, he published his book "YEAR OF THE ROOSTER," which told of his two years as a young soldier in the jungles of Vietnam. This experience was very therapeutic for him.

Larry will be missed by many. He leaves behind his partner, Evelynh, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial will be held at The Country Barn, in Lane, on May 3, at 2 p.m.
