After four years at the helm, Coeur d’Alene High School Principal Mike Randles will retire from the Coeur d’Alene School District at the end of this school year, the district announced Thursday.

"Mr. Randles brought extensive experience to the district as a classroom teacher, a secondary school administrator and a student activity leader," district officials said in the announcement.

Randles’ tenure with the Coeur d’Alene School District prioritized building strong relationships with students, staff and the broader school community.

As principal of Coeur d'Alene High, he led his staff in implementing Professional Learning Communities and Response to Intervention. Prior to this role, Randles taught English at Sandpoint High School before accepting the position of assistant principal/activities director at Coeur d'Alene High in 2016. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Montana, a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of Idaho and an educational specialist degree.

In a written communication to Coeur d'Alene High staff members, Randles said serving as the principal of Coeur d’Alene High School has been the greatest privilege of his professional career.

“When I first interviewed for this role, I spoke about CHS as a special place," Randles said in the letter. "That belief has only deepened over time. CHS is a school full of dedicated professionals — people who show up every day for their students, for each other, and for something larger than themselves. It has been an honor to stand alongside you.”

The district will now conduct an internal and national search for the next principal.
