ENDORSEMENT: Vote for Bauman
Our children are our future, they need to be protected. Remember the adage — garbage in, garbage out? That can be applied to processed food going into your body, profanity heard over the airwaves, or images manifested in one’s mind from a description in a book.
Children learn from input. From a young age, they explore their world with all of their senses. They don’t have the wherewithal to determine what’s good, what’s bad, or what’s poison. Why do you think the green Mr. Yuck sticker was invented and applied to medicines and household cleaners? A child’s job is to learn from their environment.
Characters are role models. Plots teach life lessons. Give a child a book and its contents are taken at face value. Let’s be careful what we put before our children.
Did you know that 87% of the juvenile collection at the Community Library Network are books copyrighted after 2001? Where are the classics? Our focus should be to get rid of the bad eggs, yes; but we should also be filling the library with time-tested gems from the past.
Victoria Bauman, Community Library Network candidate, agrees with me. Let’s keep our libraries safe for children AND let’s bring back the classics. Victoria will be a valuable addition to the board of trustees. She is out in the community and wants to meet you. Find out where at VoteForVictoria.com.
