Idaho women sign WSU transfer Gardner
MOSCOW — Kyra Gardner, who spent the past three seasons at Washington State, has signed a letter of intent with Idaho, Vandals coach Arthur Moreira announced.
Gardner, a 5-foot-11 native of Raymond, Wash., played in 90 games for the Cougars, averaging 8 minutes per game. She averaged 2.9 points and 1.3 rebounds per game, and shot 48 of 155 (.310) from 3-point range.
Her career high of 13 points came on Feb. 29, 2024 against No. 18 Utah.
She was part of a 2024 team that won the Pac-12 Championship and advanced to the NCAA tournament.
At Raymond High, Gardner was named the 2021-22 Gatorade Washington Girls Basketball Player of the Year. That same year she was named the 2021-22 WIAA Class 2B Player of the Year after she had averaged 26.7 points, 9.5. rebounds, and 7.0 steals per game during her senior season. She finished her time at RHS as the program's all-time leader in points scored (1,906) and steals (584). She scored 30 or more points in 21 games over her high school career, and also starred for the RHS track and field and volleyball teams, being voted the 2021 2B Pacific League MVP in volleyball.
"She is an incredible athlete and a very skilled basketball player," Moreira said. "She can create her shot in a number of different ways and will be a tough cover for guards in our conference. I think she will fit in great with the way we play, and it will allow her to expand her game and fulfill her potential. She knows what winning looks like."
Gardner is the fourth signing for the Vandals out of the signing portal.
