A Coeur d'Alene man was sentenced to 15 years in prison Tuesday after being convicted of attempted sexual exploitation of a child by producing or promoting sexually explicit material.

Jason Wilburn Kimmel, 52, will be eligible for parole after seven and a half years and will also have to register as a sex offender when he is released from prison, according to a press release from the Kootenai County Prosecutor's Office.

The charge stems from an incident Nov. 29 when a 16-year-old girl discovered a hidden pen camera in a bathroom prior to getting in the shower, the release said.

The teen used a computer to look at the contents of a mini-SD card she located in the pen camera and found a 15-minute video of herself getting in and out of the shower and a screenshot, and a video of Kimmel setting up the hidden camera, the release said.

After the teen left with the hidden camera, Kimmel texted and tried calling her, but she contacted an adult and law enforcement instead.

Attempted sexual exploitation of a child by producing or promoting sexually explicit material is a felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

Kimmel was sentenced by District Judge Barbara Duggan.
