Post Falls man arrested after standoff
POST FALLS — A Post Falls man was arrested following a standoff with police Sunday night.
According to a press release, Post Falls Police Department detectives and Special Response Team members were in the area of 4800 block of West Riverbend Avenue conducting surveillance in preparation to serve a search warrant on the home of a 52-year-old man.
"During this process, the suspect drove through the area and a traffic stop was conducted to contact him and conduct the search warrant," the release said.
The driver, who was armed with a handgun, initially refused to exit his vehicle, but ultimately surrendered and was taken into custody, the release said. He was booked at the Kootenai County jail for resisting and obstructing.
Detectives and Special Response Team members then conducted a search of the suspect’s home.
During the incident, due to the proximity to Interstate 90, eastbound traffic was briefly closed. East and westbound traffic on Riverbend Avenue was also closed for the duration of this incident.
The suspect’s name and location of his home were not released in order to protect the identity of the victim "as the nature of the crime involves a possible sex offense," the release said.
