| April 19, 2025 1:20 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Down to their last out, the Coeur d’Alene Vikings finished off a six-run rally in the top of the seventh inning of the second game to complete a sweep of the host Lake City Timberwolves in a matchup of the top two teams in the Inland Empire League on Friday at Lake City.

Scores were 6-0 and 7-5.

Trailing 5-1 entering the top of the seventh in the nightcap, Coeur d’Alene (12-0, 10-0 IEL) inched closer on a two-run homer by Leah Nordman and an RBI single by Molly Nelson.

With two out and the bases loaded, an error on a ground ball allowed all three runs to score, putting the Vikings in the lead.

In the first game, Jenna Davenport struck out 11, walked one and allowed three hits for Coeur d’Alene.

In the second game, Layla Gugino of Lake City (12-6-1, 10-3) hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning to put the Timberwolves up 4-1.

SPIRIT LAKE — Freshman Shae Jones celebrated her 15th birthday by pitching a five-inning no-hitter as the Tigers beat the visiting Wildcats in nonleague play.

Jones struck out 13 and walked none for Timberlake (10-2). The lone runner for Kellogg (1-13) reached on a one-out error in the second inning.

“Shae was dominant again on the mound today,” Timberlake coach Casi Lupinacci said. “We hit the ball pretty well as a team. We just need to continue to get better each and every game.”

Jones also went 2 for 2 with five RBIs for the Tigers, including a three-run double in a 12-run second inning. Alannah Winland added a two-run double in the fourth, and finished with three RBIs.

The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was canceled due to injury and illness issues with Kellogg.
