Weems named to

NJCAA All-Star Game

North Idaho College sophomore guard Vaughn Weems was named to the NJCAA 2025 men’s all-star basketball game on May 17 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

Weems, who was second in scoring in the NJCAA at 26.7 points per game, signed with Nevada earlier this week. Weems is unable to attend, according to NIC coach Corey Symons, due to a wedding.

Rosters will be determined through a draft conducted by the coaches.

The game tips off at 4:30 p.m. and will be streamed on YouTube.

Cougars sign Morehead State transfer Morton

Jerone Morton, a junior guard who played two seasons at Morehead State, has signed a financial aid agreement (F.A.A.) with Washington State men’s basketball to compete for the Cougs in the 2025-26 season.

Morton, from Winchester, Ky., played 52 games for Morehead State, including a starting role as a sophomore in 2024-25. Morton averaged 10.4 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per game for MSU. The guard started 20 games for Morehead, delivering a team-high 89 assists at 3.4 per game, ninth-best in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Morton arrived at Morehead State as the No. 2-ranked high school player in the state, according to Prep Hoops and Rivals.com. He helped George Rogers Clark High win its first state title since 1951, scoring 14 points in the 2021-22 state title game.

As a sophomore at Morehead, Morton scored a career-high 21 points against SIUE, his second of a pair of 20-point performances. On 14 occasions he scored in double figures.

Morton is the first Cougar to sign an F.A.A. with coach David Riley this offseason from the transfer portal.
