ENDORSEMENT: Vote for Lippert
I recently read a story about a 16-year-old young man and young woman who fall in love. I found the book sweet and charming, and was surprised to learn it was on many banned book lists. Per Google, this is largely because of its depictions of teenage sex. That was interesting to me because the characters were responsible with the way they touched and never had sex.
This raises a question. Who gets to decide what is too graphic? That job clearly belongs to parents and guardians. However, recently in our community many members of the CLN Library Board have been trying to make these decisions themselves, without regard for what a parent or guardian might think best for– their child. This is why I am voting for Michelle Lippert for library board. She will work to return to parents the ability to make the best decisions for their children.
