PREP BASEBALL: Shaw, Lehman, Little fuel Sandpoint sweep of Lewiston
SANDPOINT — Sophomore Brennan Shaw struck out seven batters over six scoreless innings in the opener, senior Drew Lehman and junior Mason Little both went 3 for 4 with two RBI in the nightcap as the Sandpoint Bulldogs swept the Lewiston Bengals 7-0 and 16-6 in an Inland Empire League doubleheader Saturday at War Memorial Field.
Sandpoint coach Ricky Klontz said the plan heading into game one was to just get a few innings out of Shaw, but he looked sharp early on and was in the zone.
"Brennan got a lot of weak contact and kept his pitch count down — it was great," Klontz said. "Him being able to go six innings was fantastic and helped our pitching out a lot. He threw really well."
In the fourth inning of the second game, Lehman — a Columba Basin College commit — had an RBI triple and Little an RBI double to extend the lead to 10-6. Turner, who was 2-for-2 with a team-high four RBI in the contest, then knocked a two-run triple of his own and junior Sage Medeiros tacked an RBI single to cap off a five-run frame.
Sandpoint (8-10, 7-7 IEL) hosts Bonners Ferry in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
