Richard Lloyd Way Jr., 51
Richard Lloyd Way Jr. (Rich, Papa, Grumpy) passed away March 9, 2025, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, at the age of 51. Rich was born in Denver, Colo., on Oct. 25, 1973, to Richard Lloyd Way Sr. and Virginia Nann (Steffelin) Mosier. He was the first of two children. He and his younger brother, Patrick, spent their youth making mischief together in the mountains of Colorado and Southern Idaho. When Virginia was relocated to Northern Idaho, they finally found the place they’d call home. Rich spent his life hunting, fishing and camping in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with his brother, two children, Mackenzie and Taylor, and many lifelong friends.
“Such as hands that smell of fish” was a phrase he’d use when describing his love for fishing and the quality time it brought.
When Rich wasn’t in the woods, he was watching a football game or hosting a barbecue and was always the life of every party.
Rich was a wonderful HVAC journeyman and even spent time working on jobs nationwide.
In 2003, Rich married his best friend and love of his life, Anne Elizabeth Williams. Their quality time included many mountain drives, singing at the top of their lungs or spoiling their feline friends.
He made a lasting impression on the people he met everywhere he went. His crooked smile and tight hugs could turn a bad day into a great one. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten by those he has left behind.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Way; brother Patrick Way (April); son Taylor Way; daughter Mackenzie Cobb (Cory); grandchildren Emma, Ethan and Elijah; mother of his children, Brandy Schultze (Gary); aunt Robyn Steffelin; in-laws Kurt and Lois Williams; stepfather Chuck Mosier; stepbrother Sunny Mosier (Naomi); and a large number of nieces, nephews and so many close family friends as well as his furry companions: Biscuit, Bubba and Murphy.
A memorial service and wake will be held in honor of Rich’s life at 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2025, at Yates Funeral Home — Hayden Chapel (373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden Lake, ID 83835).
We all know Rich would have wanted something casual, so the family invites guests to wear sports jerseys to the wake.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Companions Animal Center in Hayden (P.O. Box 1005 Hayden, ID 83835). Please visit Rich’s online memorial and sign his guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
