Betty Jane Corrine Brasseur, 93

| April 12, 2025 1:00 AM

Betty Jane Corrine Johnson was born Feb. 2, 1932, to Swedish emigrants Albin Johnson and Karin Karlstedt at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, Ill. She was raised in Wheaton, Ill., and served as a nurse’s aide at Geneva Community Hospital, where her interest in surgical nursing began. She attended Swedish Covenant Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated as a registered nurse in 1953.

While working at Swedish Covenant Hospital, she met her soulmate, Eugene V. H. Brasseur, a student doctor, while assisting him in surgery. They fell in love and married June 12, 1954.

Betty Jane was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, auntie, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her influence in their lives has marked generations through the love of Jesus she shared with others. She was a mighty prayer warrior, generous to a fault and the epitome of industrious excellence and motherhood. Her interests included oil painting and playing the piano.

In 1988, Betty Jane lost the love of her life to cancer and never remarried. She retired from nursing at age 72.

Betty Jane is survived by her six children and their spouses: Michele Furman (Rick Furman); Garner Brasseur; Malcolm Brasseur (Sunni Brasseur); André Brasseur (Gretchen Brasseur); Adrienne Syvertson (Brian Syvertson); and Stephanie Brasseur (Bill May); brothers-in-law: R. Garner Brasseur; Victor Brasseur; and Phil Brasseur; sisters-in-law: Georgia Brasseur; Viola Brasseur; Marge Brasseur; and Dorothy Brasseur; 21 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews. She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed!

A viewing will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Yates Funeral Home — Coeur d’Alene Chapel (744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814).  A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m.
