Walter 'Walt' Siring, 83

| April 11, 2025 1:00 AM

Walter “Walt” Douglas Siring, 83, of Rathdrum, Idaho, passed away March 3, 2025, at Orchard Ridge Retirement Home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with his wife at his side. Walter was born in Baker, Mont., on Oct. 28, 1941, to Walter Douglas and Beatrice Parent Siring. He was the second oldest of three brothers and one sister.

Walt married Marcia Jane Freeman on Dec. 28, 1991, in Federal Way, Wash.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1966. His family has always been proud of his military service!

Over the years, his career was in the building and construction industry. He owned his own contractor business, building houses in Montana as a young man. Later, he managed lumber yards for Lumbermen’s Building Supply (later Probuild Lumber) in South King County and Island County in Washington State.

He so enjoyed engineering and carrying out improvements for their home, tinkering in the garage and taking great pride in knowing where his plentiful collection of tools and equipment was located and organized. Moving from Coupeville, Wash., upon retirement to Idaho in 2009 suited Walt and Marcia well, allowing them to be more centrally located for all of the children of their blended family. Walt had been a longtime square dancer, and he and Marcia (who learned to square dance soon after they were married) were members of two square dance clubs in Idaho: Coeurly Q’s and Wild Rose Ramblers. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Coeur d'Alene, where he enjoyed keeping the grounds beautiful, and was a member of Facilities for several years. He enjoyed tent camping (later trailer camping), biking and hiking and backyard gardening, where the kids and grandkids came to eat as many of the fresh raspberries as they could get their hands on!

Walt is survived by his wife, Marcia, of Rathdrum, Idaho; daughter Anita Carrico (h. John) of Marion, Ind.; son Michael Siring of Billings, Mont.; Corina Thompson (h. John) of South Prairie, Wash.; Vicki Green (h. Shawn) of Park City, Mont.; Angela McKay of Bottineau, N.D.; LeAnn Mitzel of Auburn, Wash., and Angie Saladis (h. Scott) of Covington, Wash. Walt is also survived by his brother, Ronald Siring, (w. Rosie) of Yuma, Ariz.; and sister Barbara (h. Lenny), of Sydney, Mont., 11 nieces and nephews, and 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren!

A memorial service and reception will be held at 11 a.m. on April 26 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 501 Wallace Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The ashes will be interred with military honors at Forest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Orchard Ridge Retirement Home in Coeur d’Alene or to Hospice of North Idaho.
