PREP BASEBALL: Coeur d'Alene bounces back for sweep of Post Falls

| April 9, 2025 1:17 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Hunter Chambers singled to score Dylan Sutich with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning in the first game for Coeur d’Alene, and the Vikings went on to sweep an Inland Empire League doubleheader against Post Falls, 3-1 and 13-3 at Ted Page Field on Tuesday.

Coeur d’Alene sophomore Evan Robertson struck out 12 in the opener, allowing only a solo home run by Marshall Tomlinson to give Post Falls a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth.

“Evan pitched a great game and was really on point all day,” Coeur d’Alene coach Brandon Williams said. “We just had a lot of great at-bats throughout the lineup today.”

Post Falls pitcher Gavin Wienker struck out four and allowed two earned runs in 5.1 innings.

“Evan was phenomenal, and Gavin pitched a great game as well,” Post Falls coach Kurt Reese said. “They got the lead and we just couldn’t answer back. It was a good battle and baseball game.”

Coeur d’Alene (8-1, 7-1 IEL) lost starting outfielder Owen Field to a knee injury for the season. Infielder Bam Fenter is also out for an extended period of time with a knee injury.

“I told our guys we’ve got to have a 'next man up' mentality,” Williams said. “It’s always tough coming out after spring break, especially against a good Post Falls team. Our guys knew they had to be ready to go.”

Post Falls is 5-7, 3-5.

In the second game, Kolbe Coey drove in four runs and Dylan Cook added three RBIs as the Vikings closed out the sweep.

Tuesday's games were moved to Coeur d'Alene due to poor field conditions at Post Falls.

The teams will play another doubleheader on Thursday, at Post Falls High.
