Roy Diteman, 91

| April 6, 2025 1:00 AM

Roy R. Diteman passed into the open arms of Jesus on the first day of spring 2025. Roy was born to Lorna (Fish) Diteman and Curtis H. Diteman on Jan. 17, 1934. He was their second child of eight.

Roy is preceded in death by his sister, Patricia, and brothers Curtis Jr. and Frank. He is survived by his brothers, Richard and John, and sisters Judith and Elynda.

While on leave from his service in the Navy, Roy met his wife of 68 years, Laura Marie Holden, when a beautiful girl walked by on the 4th of July at Fish Lake, Wash. On June 1, 1957, they were married in Arlington, Va. Soon after, their daughters, Monica Diteman, Cynthia (Eaton-Wilson) and Corinne Diteman, were born. They shared eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, with an addition soon-to-be baby Roy Hammer.

Roy and Laura lived a life of love, family, friendship, faith, travel, music and adventure. Always following the possibility of better work, Roy moved his family nearly 50 times within Washington, California, Louisiana and Idaho. Roy explored many career paths but ultimately enjoyed success as a building contractor in northern Idaho. Roy and Pastor, Bub Lawson, along with good friends LD Griewing and Kenny Johnson, formed a prayer group in 2012, which has continued to the present day. Wherever Roy travelled, he took the time to visit relatives or friends in the area. Roy continued to plan family reunions, with the last one being in 2023.

After a major heart attack at 46, Roy was told he had 5 years to live. Living to 91 was a testament to his strength, faith and ability to change. He was also grateful to all of his health care providers, including the VA.

Celebrate Roy's life Saturday, June 28, at 1 p.m. at Mukagawa Fort Wright's Fosseen Room in Spokane, Wash., with graveside visitation to follow.
