PREP BASEBALL: Sandpoint, Post Falls split
POST FALLS — Ayden Carrasco's suicide squeeze scored Isaiah Kearney with the winning run with one out in the eighth inning as the Post Falls Trojans beat the Sandpoint Bulldogs 8-7 to get a split in an Inland Empire League doubleheader at Post Falls High on Saturday.
“We struggled to execute and throw strikes all day,” Post Falls coach Kurt Reese said. “Sandpoint battled and should have won both games. We got a guy on and Caleb (Jimerson) hit a ball to the wall and we had runners on second and third in the eighth, and then Ayden just put down a perfect bunt to win it.”
Marshall Tomlinson scored on a wild pitch to give the Trojans a 7-6 lead in the third inning of the second game. Soren Caprio scored on an error in the sixth inning for Sandpoint to tie the game at 7-7.
Parker Reichart had two RBIs in the second game for Sandpoint.
Mike O’Connor had two RBIs in the nightcap for Post Falls.
In the first game, Reichart went 3 for 3 with an RBI and run scored as the Bulldogs beat the Trojans 8-3, their first win over Post Falls since 2021.
“Sandpoint played really well today and we were just flat,” said Reese, whose team allowed 20 walks in the twinbill. “Our entire team was not sharp today. We did some good things, then some things that would kill our momentum.”
Andrew Lehman drove in two runs for Sandpoint (4-8, 3-5), which visits Lake City for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Jimerson and Carrasco had RBIs in the opener for Post Falls (4-4, 2-2 IEL), which hosts Coeur d’Alene in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
