Angler surveys to take place on Lake Coeur d’Alene

| April 5, 2025 1:06 AM

Idaho Fish and Game will begin conducting angler surveys, also known as creel surveys, on Lake Coeur d’Alene and its chain lakes in the coming months.

The surveys will be done in partnership with the Coeur d'Alene Tribe.

Fish and Game technicians on the northern half of the lake and tribal technicians on the southern half will be conducting short interviews with anglers at boat ramps as they are ending their day of fishing. The interviews will last no longer than a few minutes.

“Creel surveys are an important tool biologists use for managing fisheries. Information from the survey will allow us to compare angler catch and harvest to fish populations and existing regulations to see if there are any levers we can pull to make fishing even better,” said Mike Thomas, regional fisheries biologist in the Panhandle.

Ultimately, future decisions related to managing the many fisheries in Lake Coeur d’Alene are only as good as the information Fish and Game uses to make them, a Fish and Game release said.

IFG, in partnership with anglers, can generate useful information to maintain or improve local fisheries.

"If you see a technician at a boat ramp this summer asking you to participate in a quick interview, please consider doing so," the release added.
