Spokane Street project in Post Falls resumes Monday

POST FALLS — Construction on the Spokane Street rehabilitation project picks up again Monday.

City officials are also looking into hiring contractors to make additional repairs south of Prairie Avenue.

The Spokane Street and Poleline Avenue roundabout was originally constructed in 2009, but some patching in the roundabout led to the discovery that more repairs were needed.

City projects division manager Andrew Arbini said the project was originally budgeted under the streets division.

He said it's been about 15 years and the typical life of a roundabout ranges from 15 to 20 years.

"So we're in that time frame," Arbini said.

The estimate for the work is less than $200,000.

Post Falls can apply unused grant funds for the larger Spokane Street project toward the Poleline and Spokane roundabout.

Mayor Ron Jacobson had previously expressed surprise that repairs were already needed, until it was pointed out how much time had elapsed.

"I drive it every day and it's in terrible shape," Jacobson said Tuesday at a City Council meeting.

Construction begins Monday, April 7 on the Spokane Street rehabilitation project. At the Spokane Street and Poleline Avenue roundabout, further repairs are needed as part of the project.
