NIC WOMEN'S GOLF: Cardinals wrap up play at Cowgirl Classic in Arizona

MARICOPA, Ariz. — North Idaho College freshman Ryann Walker shot a 9-over 81 in the final round of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic on Thursday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. 

Walker finished the tournament tied for 84th with a 90-94-81—265 for NIC, the lone junior college program competing in the tournament. 

“The first day they played 36 holes, followed by 18 holes the second day,” NIC coach Brittany Pounds said. “They encountered 30 to 40 mile per hour winds in the first and second round (Wednesday). These are elements that the girls have not had much experience in. The second day had much better conditions and then the girls were able to improve 25 strokes with Ryann leading and improving 13 strokes from Round 2 to Round 3.”

Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn of Iowa State shot a 73-72-69—214 to earn medalist honors, leading the Cyclones to the team title with a 291-297-279—867. 

NIC will compete in the Bobcat Desert Classic, hosted by Montana State, starting Monday at The Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.
