NIC, library events scheduled for April 10, 11
North Idaho College will host book readings with published authors next week as part of Eastern Washington University’s annual literary Get Lit! Festival.
The events are free and open to the public.
Author Debra Magpie Earling, a member of the Bitterroot Salish Tribe, will read select works from her books “Perma Red” and “The Lost Journals of Sacajawea” at noon Thursday in the lobby of the DeArmond Building on NIC’s Coeur d’Alene campus, 1000 W. Garden Ave.
Earling is a recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant, a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Montana Book Award. Her works span across reservations and topics surrounding Native American history.
Poet Li-Young Lee will take part in a conversation around the themes of faith and spirituality in his work, moderated by NIC English professor Erin Davis and poet laureate of Coeur d’Alene Jennifer Passaro at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11 in the Community Room of the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, 702 E. Front Ave.
Lee is the author of six poetry books, including his newest collection, “The Invention of the Darling.” Lee’s honors include fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Lannan Foundation and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation as well as grants from the Illinois Arts Council, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
In its 27th year, Eastern Washington University’s Get Lit! Festival is an annual literary celebration, featuring readings, workshops, craft classes and panel discussions with diverse authors from the Inland Northwest and beyond.
