“48 Hours” will air a program this weekend about the murder of Kendy Howard.

The episode, titled “The Bathtub Murder of Kendy Howard,” will air at 10 p.m. Saturday on CBS and stream on Paramount+.

When sheriff’s deputies were called to the Kootenai County home of Dan and Kendy Howard in February 2021, former Idaho State Police trooper Dan Howard told police his wife had shot herself in the bathtub.

But something didn’t seem right to investigators. A packed duffle bag was ready to go. The dryer was running, full of clean bath towels. And, police said, Dan Howard appeared to have recently showered and changed his clothes.

There was reason to believe the scene of Kendy Howard’s suicide may have been staged.

“Dan knows things that most normal people, ordinary people, don’t know,” said Ken Lallatin, a retired detective sergeant with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office. “Things like killing someone and staging it to look like a suicide.”

Three years after Kendy Howard died, Dan Howard was charged with her murder. He was sentenced to life in prison earlier this year.
