COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Kaylee Paulson had 11 kills and two blocks, senior Gracie Legg 21 digs for the Coeur d’Alene Vikings in a 25-13, 25-13, 26-24 Inland Empire League win over the Lake City Timberwolves at Viking Court on Wednesday.

Senior Paisley Goings had seven kills and 11 digs, junior Bevin Green two blocks and nine assists, senior Elizabeth Hardy 13 assists and junior Gianna Callari eight kills and four blocks for Coeur d’Alene (15-3, 6-0 IEL), which competes in the Madison Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Rexburg.

“The match tonight showcased our team unity and defensive determination,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “We came together as one, stayed focused, and played with relentless effort from start to finish. Kaylee was dominant outside tonight. She did an amazing job fooling the block and finding holes in their defense. Gracie showed her determination and leadership.”

Senior Jessalyn Wilson had nine kills and six digs, senior Josie Hocking four kills and two blocks, senior Taylor Winey 12 assists and senior Daphne Neeley 21 digs for Lake City (10-4, 4-3 IEL), which competes in the Sheridan/Welch Crossover Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Spokane.

“The scores didn’t reflect it, but I do feel like we made some improvements compared to last week,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “Coeur d’Alene is extremely talented and while it’s a bummer to lose, it makes us better to have to battle against a good team. So, we’ll view this as another opportunity to grow and stay committed to peaking at the right time. Our best volleyball is ahead of us.”

POST FALLS — Reagan Meine gave the Panthers the lead in the 45th minute before the Intermountain League match was called off due to lightning three minutes later at The Fields.

According to Idaho High School Activities Association rules, if the second half of a match has started, and is delayed due to lightning, the match can be called at that point by a referee’s decision.

Coeur d’Alene Charter athletic director Aaron Lippy said the teams waited out the storm indoors at The Courts until 7:15 p.m. before another bolt was seen in the area as the teams were warming up to resume play.

“We really struggled to play any type of possession game most of the first half,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “We just looked to get rid of it without trying to build anything. We’ve been our own worst enemy lately in that regard. We finally had some good soccer moments toward the end of the first and beginning the second half, we started to string together some connecting passes.”

Coeur d’Alene Charter (5-2-2, 5-0-1 IML) hosts Grangeville on Friday.

Bonners Ferry is 6-6, 4-3.

“Bonners Ferry played with a lot of fire,” Smith said. “I would have liked to have seen what we could have strung together in the second half on our home field.”

First half — 1, BF, unknown, 18:00. 2, Charter, own goal, 17:00. Second half — 3, Charter, Reagan Meine (Sierra Shepard), 45:00.

Shots on goal — BF 3, Charter 4.
