PREP VOLLEYBALL: Post Falls rallies past Lakeland in five sets

POST FALLS — The Battle of the Prairie continued over to the volleyball court Tuesday night. 

The Lakeland Hawks and Post Falls Trojans battled for five sets before Post Falls prevailed in a wild one, 19-25, 25-21, 27-29, 25-22, 17-15 in Inland Empire League play Tuesday night at The Arena.  

“What a great battle tonight,” Post Falls coach Matt Barkley said. “Both teams gave everything they had. I’m so proud of how our girls fought back when our backs were against a wall.” 

Senior Trinity Byrne had 17 kills, three blocks and three aces for Post Falls (9-5, 3-2 IEL). Vanessa Kison added 14 killsand 20 digs, Lucy Carr 28 assists and four aces, Zuri Blood 12 assists, Tiffany Foxx five blocks, Summer Dan three blocks, Lexi Norisada 19 digs. 

“Vanessa and Lexi were locked in with their passing and digging,” Barkley said. “Trinity had a fire in her tonight that helped us push through some tough stretches. This was another hard-fought team win for us. I like the direction we’re heading.” 

Junior Alyssa Ryckman had 21 kills and 19 blocks for Lakeland (9-4, 4-2). Landree Simon had 23 kills, Olivia Zazuetta 50 assists, 20 digs and two aces, Addy Jo Hocking 24 digs and two aces, Jolie Warren three blocks. 

“We fought hard ... the team showed immense resilience and determination,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “Alyssa was a standout with her powerful kills, consistently putting pressure on the Post Falls defense. She also showcased her defensive game, making key plays to keep her team in the game. Liv's leadership as setter was crucial, making smart decisions under pressure and delivering precision sets throughout the match. Her defensive contributions further strengthened the team's efforts. Landree added to the offensive with some key kills, helping keep the team in contention throughout the evening. Though the result didn’t go in our favor, the girls showed heart and teamwork, leaving it all on the court.” 

Both teams return to action Friday and Saturday at the Sheridan/Welch Crossover in Spokane.



Timberlake d. 

Clark Fork 

CLARK FORK — The visiting Tigers won their third straight match, sweeping the Wampus Cats 25-8, 25-19, 25-14. 

Kaydence Edwards had 18 assists for Timberlake (8-6), Amarijana Olivieri added eight kills, Addie Archer five kills, Mya Reynoldson seven aces, Maci Sandbank five aces, Isabelle Torr four digs. 

Clark Fork is 2-8. 

Timberlake returns to action next Tuesday at home vs. Kellogg.

St. Maries 

ST. MARIES — Paige Yrjana had five aces and three blocks as the visiting Wildcats beat the Lumberjacks 25-19, 25-15, 27-25 in Central Idaho League play. 

Dani Henrikson added seven kills, Ella Yrjana 12 assists, Jordyn Stutzke 26 digs for Kellogg (11-2, 5-1 Central Idaho League). 

Mia Asbury had five kills, 11 assists, three aces and two blocks for St. Maries (5-11, 0-5). Brenna Elliott added four kills, eight assists and eight digs, Raevyn Yearout five kills and 13 digs, Allie Zook 13 digs, Naomi Mueller three aces, Meijah Yearout two blocks. 

On Thursday, St. Maries travels to Orofino, and Kellogg is home vs. Priest River.

Wallace 

POST FALLS — Senior Laya Daniels had seven kills, eight blocks, seven aces and five digs as the host Jaguars swept the Miners 25-21, 25-21, 25-16 in Scenic Idaho Conference play at The Courts at Real Life. 

Ella Martin had six kills and seven digs for Genesis Prep (5-3, 4-0 SIC). Madi Cooper had 11 digs and three kills, Pearl Covey 15 digs, Kinzie Lawler five blocks and three aces, Kennedy Prendergast 22 assists and three blocks. 

“This is the first time we've ever swept Wallace,” Genesis Prep coach Paula Thurston said. “They are always such a fun team to play and it feels so good to get a huge league win at home. I am so proud of how well the girls played together tonight. They are working hard and improving every single day and it shows.” 

Kylee Phillips had five kills, four aces and 16 digs for Wallace (4-4, 1-3). Kayla Hasz had five kills, Aubrey Birdsell 12 assists, Bethany Phillips three kills and two blocks, Khepri Wood 10 digs. 

On Thursday, Genesis Prep travels to Kootenai, and Wallace visits Clark Fork.

Coeur du Christ 

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Kimberly Pluff had 13 kills, four digs and two aces as the visiting Knights downed the Saints 25-19, 27-25, 25-23 in nonleague play at Holy Family Catholic School. 

Tylah Lambert had 12 assists, four digs and two aces for Lakeside (6-1). Rayna Schatz had five aces and five kills, Saydee Peone 13 assists, five kills, four digs and two aces, Laila Charley five kills, three digs and two aces, Allisue Hendrickx six digs. 

“Another stressful one,” Lakeside coach Devyn Moore said. “Kimberly Pluff with yet again another solid performance. She was literally everywhere tonight. Her kills were on point and she truly was all over. Rayna with some big swings and clutch serving tonight. Laila with her speed helped pick up most of all the tips and she was making big plays at the net. Saydee Peone had a solid game tonight, dished great sets out and had big serves. Tylah had great digs tonight and also dished out great sets to our hitters.” 

Madeline Junkin, Josephine Zepeda and Lucy Ross each had seven kills for Coeur du Christ (5-4), and Ava Owens had four aces. 

“One of our starting setters was out sick, so I was extremely happy and impressed with some other girls stepping into new roles and playing very well tonight,” Coeur du Christ coach Natalie Kiefer said. “In particular, Ava was setting half the time, and this is her third year with me. We have never played her as a setter. So I was very impressed with her rising to the occasion.” 

On Thursday, Lakeside travels to Mulllan, and Coeur du Christ is home vs. North Idaho Christian at Holy Family Catholic School.
