Donald Knott, 70
Don Knott passed away Aug. 30 in Portland, Ore., after a battle with lung cancer. He was born April 5, 1954, in Kellogg, Idaho, to Rosie (Peterson) and Norman Knott Sr., the youngest of five children.
Don graduated from Kellogg High School in 1972. He excelled in school golf and was a starting guard for the '72 Wildcat basketball team. He attended NIC in 1974, where he played for the legendary basketball coach Rollie Williams.
Don continued to pursue athletics throughout his life. He played the roles of a coach, mentor, team captain of men's league softball and basketball teams, and golf club champion for consecutive years. He inspired many with his talent, grace and style.
Don held numerous jobs over the years. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, Bunker Hill and peddling beer in the North Idaho area where he sold his favorite beer, ice cold Heidelberg. He retired after working for Wonder Bread and Hostess for 27 years.
Don leaves behind his loving daughter, Cora Beth, and his three beloved grandchildren, Anna, Madeline and Penelope.
Don is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Norm, Gary and Larry. His remaining sibling, Shelley, and brother-in-law Dave Church reside in Hayden, Idaho. He will be greatly missed by his family and many close friends.
A private gathering for family will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 12:30 p.m. A celebration of life ceremony will take place afterwards at Mountain View Congregational Church at 3 p.m., followed by a get-together at the Inland Lounge the same day, where all are welcome.
