Jackass Half Marathon on the horizon
KELLOGG — The award-winning Jackass Half Marathon and 5K is just two weeks away and this year looks like it’s going to be another banger.
Hosted by the Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Jackass has become a staple of the running community, with hundreds of people pouring in from around the United States.
The fifth annual Jackass Half Marathon and 5K is Saturday, Oct. 5., with the half marathon kicking off at 9:30 a.m., and the 5K beginning at 11 a.m.
“This year, we have a record number of people registered, with 450 half marathon runners and 200 5K runners,” Jackass founder Kelton Enich said. “We have runners traveling to the Silver Valley from 24 states."
"We think that maybe our title of ‘Best Half Marathon in Idaho’ from RaceRaves helped to diversify where our runners are traveling from," he added.
According to Enich, the race sold out faster than ever during the early registration period, which only solidifies the event’s popularity.
Silver Valley runners have been getting ready as well, with several people participating in a series of small runs humorously called Jackass Jaunts.
The celebration kicks off Oct. 4, with the registration packet pick-up party at the Beanery. The races are run Oct. 5. Jackass Weekend wraps up with another big party near the finish line.
“Just like the last few years, half marathon runners will be running on the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes from Wallace and end in Uptown Kellogg outside our title sponsor, Radio Brewing,” Enich said.
He said Radio will be handing out Jackass branded cans of beer. Runners will also get to pick out their race T-shirt from Traveling Ts. Sponsoring businesses will host themed aid stations and there are more than 100 volunteers.
Additional volunteers are welcome.
