PREP ROUNDUP: Charter, Timberlake girls draw

POST FALLS — The chances were there for both the Tigers and Panthers.

But it was just one of those days.

Timberlake goalkeeper Ali Grantham had three saves, Coeur d’Alene Charter keeper Adysen Robinson three saves as the teams played to a 0-0 draw in an Intermountain League match at The Fields on Wednesday.

“Both teams had some scoring chances that they didn’t capitalize on,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “However, we did find ourselves with some good build up into the final third more times than the first time we played Timberlake. While the technical side wasn’t perfect, there was a great deal of heart and effort.”

Coeur d’Alene Charter (3-1-2, 3-0-1 IML) hosts Priest River on Friday at The Fields.

Timberlake (5-2-1, 4-1-1) travels to Bonners Ferry on Tuesday.

SPOKANE — The Timberwolves played to a draw with the Tigers at ONE Spokane Stadium.

Further information was not available.

Lake City (6-2-2) hosts Moscow today in a nonleague match.

ST. MARIES — The Lumberjacks fell to 1-5 overall and in Intermountain League play with a loss to the Bulldogs at City Park.

Grangeville is 2-3, 2-2.

St. Maries travels to Priest River on Monday.

Coeur du Christ 

POST FALLS — Laya Daniels had 11 kills, five digs and three aces for Genesis Prep in a 25-18, 25-17, 25-20 nonleague win over Coeur du Christ at The Courts. 

Madi Cooper had 10 digs and four kills, Pearl Covey 18 digs and three assists, Kinzie Lawler five kills and six aces, Kennedy Prendergast 23 assists and Ella Marin five digs, four kills and three aces for Genesis Prep (4-3), which hosts Wallace on Tuesday at The Courts. 

“We played great tonight,” Genesis Prep coach Paula Thurston said. “It was fun to play a team that we haven’t seen before. Our mental game was on point tonight, and we were able to make things happen when we needed to. I’m super proud of the girls and how they’re working together.” 

Madeline Junkin had five kills and four blocks, Kate Clemens 12 assists and five aces, Angelica Ross 12 digs for Coeur du Christ (4-3), which travels to Kootenai for a North Star League match25-19,  tonight. 

“Genesis Prep was a tough team,” Coeur du Christ coach Natalie Kiefer said. “They have some big hitters and great defense. We learned a lot from this one.”

WALLACE — Kayden Stutzke had 19 assists, Aubrey Birdsell 12 assists and three aces for the Miners in a 25-11, 25-19, 25-16 win over the Tigers at Kirby Krulitz Court. 

Kylee Phillips had 10 kills and two aces, Amie Strange nine digs, and Bethany Phillips three aces for Wallace (4-2), which travels to Kellogg tonight.

POST FALLS — Brooks Judd scored two goals, both in the second half for the Panthers in an Intermountain League win over the Tigers at The Fields. 

"We started off sluggish tonight,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Craig Daigle said. “I thought we were pressing too hard in the first half. We made adjustments in the second half and were able to clear our bench and get in all our players. Treffen McCord was able to control the middle of the field and distribute the ball very nicely tonight.” 

Taylor Smith had two assists for Coeur d’Alene Charter (6-0, 5-0 IML), which faces Priest River on Friday at The Fields. 

Timberlake (1-5-1, 1-4-1) hosts Orofino on Friday.

"The boys played well,” St. Maries coach Chris Renaldo said. “They’re improving each game, and that’s all you can ask for.”
