PREP VOLLEYBALL: Lake City rallies for reverse sweep of Post Falls

POST FALLS — Senior Jessalyn Wilson had 15 kills and 12 digs for Lake City, which bounced back after dropping the first two sets to beat the Post Falls Trojans 22-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-10, 15-13 in an Inland Empire League match on Senior Night at The Arena on Tuesday. 

“What a battle,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “We just never gave up and it’s a side of this team that I haven’t seen before. I’m so proud of them.”

Vanessa Kison had 13 kills, 10 digs and three aces, Trinity Byrne 10 kills and 10 digs, Lucy Carr and Claire Ziegler 17 assists each for Post Falls (6-5, 1-2 IEL), which hosts Moscow and University in a tri-match on Saturday. Kaela Gump had five blocks and Lucy Carr three aces for Post Falls. 

“This was a tough one,” Post Falls coach Matt Barkley said. “We really wanted to win this one for our seniors. I couldn’t be more proud of the way they battled. Senior Kaela Gump had one of her best blocking and serving games of the season. Lake City is a well-coached team and we knew being up 2-0, they wouldn’t just give this one to us. We’re a resilient team, and we’re going to grow from this one.” 

Josie Hocking had eight kills, Lola Jeanselme nine kills and 10 digs, Taylor Winey 22 assists and nine digs and Daphne Neeley 21 digs and nine aces for Lake City (9-2, 3-1), which hosts Coeur d’Alene on Thursday. 


Lewiston d. 

Coeur d’Alene 

LEWISTON — The visiting Vikings, missing two starters, pushed the Bengals to the limit before falling 14-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 15-13 in nonleague play. 

Gianna Callari had 14 kills, two aces and two blocks for Coeur d’Alene (12-3, 3-1 IEL). Hannah Shafer had 24 assists and 19 digs, Kaylee Paulson 15 kills, Gracie Legg 37 digs, Lizzy Hardy 16 assists. 

“It was a hard-fought match,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “We have a few adjustments to make to strengthen our offense, and we’ll be ready to go Thursday.” 

Lewiston is 10-3. 

Coeur d’Alene plays at Lake City on Thursday. 


Lakeland d. 

Moscow 

RATHDRUM — Landree Simon had 10 kills, Alyssa Ryckman eight as the host Hawks swept the Bears 25-19, 25-14, 25-19 in Inland Empire League play at Hawk Court. 

Addy Jo Hocking added 18 digs and three aces for Lakeland (8-3, 3-1 IEL). Olivia Zazuetta had 20 assists and three aces, Jolie Warren three blocks for the Hawks, who played for the second straight outing without the injured Ziya Munyer (knee), the Weber State commit.

“Our girls played with incredible unity and showcased the kind of teamwork that sets them apart,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “From the first serve to the final point, the team demonstrated excellent coordination and communication. The win not only marks an important league victory but also highlights the growth and determination of the team as they continue to push toward our goals.” 

Moscow is 3-4, 1-2. 

Lakeland plays host to Sandpoint on Thursday. 


Priest River d. 

St. Maries 

ST. MARIES — Raevyn Yearout had 13 kills and 13 digs, Mia Asbury 11 kills, 13 assists and 10 digs for the Lumberjacks in a 20-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-17, 15-13 Central Idaho League loss to the Spartans. 

Brenna Elliott had 27 assists, 18 digs and three aces, Allie Zook 31 assists and Taryn Brebner 11 digs for St. Maries (5-9, 0-3), which hosts Grangeville on Thursday. 

Jayden Storro had 11 kills and 15 assists, Toni Marinello 22 digs for Priest River (6-1, 2-1). 


Orofino d. 

Kellogg 

KELLOGG — The Wildcats suffered their first loss in Central Idaho League play, falling 25-22, 25-20, 25-15 to the Maniacs at Andrews Gymnasium. 

Jordyn Stutzke had 25 digs and two aces, Ragen Oertli seven assists, Dani Hendrikson six kills and Aubree Groth four blocks for Kellogg (9-2, 4-1 CIL), which hosts Wallace on Thursday. 

Orofino, which lost at home to Kellogg earlier this season, is 3-3, 1-1.


Timberlake d. 

Genesis Prep 

POST FALLS — Amarijana Olivieri had 12 kills, nine digs and five aces as the visiting Tigers beat the Jaguars 25-8, 17-25, 25-23, 25-22 in nonleague play at The Courts at Real Life. 

Kaydence Edwards had 32 assists and 10 digs for Timberlake (6-6). Isabelle Torr had 15 digs, Addie Archer 12 kills, Mya Reynoldson four aces and three blocks. 

“This win was a big one for us,” Timberlake coach Lisa Gardom said. “We have been battling some adversity lately, with key players out with injuries. Teammates have been willing to step into roles that are unfamiliar to them and work hard to learn these positions. I’m really pleased with how this one finished.” 

For Genesis Prep (3-3), Laya Daniels had seven kills, six blocks and five digs, Madi Cooper had six kills, four blocks and eight digs, Ella Martin four kills, three aces and six digs, Pearl Covey 13 digs, Kennedy Prendergast 17 assists, three kills and two blocks.” 

“We played really well tonight,” Genesis Prep coach Paula Thurston said. “We started very slow in the first set, but flipped a switch mentally to bounce back in the second set. We were more prepared for Timberlake this match than we were the first time we played them earlier this season. They are such a strong team, and are so fun to play. We need to clean a few things up, but overall I'm proud of how well the girls did tonight.” 

Genesis Prep plays host to Coeur du Christ tonight. 

Timberlake plays host to Riverside on Thursday.
