COEUR d'ALENE — A stone marker and plaque in honor of Revolutionary War Patriots will be dedicated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Independence Point.

Deb Mitchell, Museum of North Idaho volunteer and history buff, said 2026 is the nation's 250th year of Independence and the America250 programs are already underway.

The project is sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution Lt. George Farragut Chapter, Plesantview Chapter and Wild Horse Trail Chapter.

"How appropriate that the city is allowing Daughters of the American Revolution to place the monument at Independence Point, established in 1976 at the 200th anniversary," Mitchell wrote.

The plaque reads: "This marker commemorates the men and women who achieved American independence. These Patriots, believing in the noble cause of liberty, fought valiantly to found a new nation."

DAR officials, Coeur d'Alene Councilwoman Christie Wood and others are scheduled to take part in the event.

The public is welcome.
