PREP ROUNDUP: Viking freshmen Focke, Wilson shine at Circling Raven Invitational

WORLEY — Coeur d’Alene High freshman Ben Focke shot a 2-under 70 to claim boys medalist honors at the Raven Invitational at Circling Raven Golf Club on Tuesday. 

Coeur d’Alene freshman Ella Wilson shot a 3-over 75 for girls medalist, as the Vikings swept team titles in a tournament against Rocky Mountain, Sandpoint and Lake City. 

“Today was a really outstanding event and our kids played at an extremely high level,” Coeur d’Alene girls coach Jeff Lake said. “Circling Raven is not an easy track, and the competition was high level with Rocky Mountain from Meridian playing. Our kids are full of grit and resilience.” 

Coeur d’Alene, Lake City and Sandpoint will compete in the Lewiston Invitational on Thursday at Lewiston Country Club.

RATHDRUM —  Junior Paige Rose and senior Evelyn Bowie scored two goals each for the Hawks in a nonleague win over the Badgers on senior night at Sunrise Rotary Field. 

"It was a good game and we got a lot of players in the game,” Lakeland coach Kevin Rogge said. “All eight of our seniors got to play significant minutes and the girls played well. We were focusing on getting some crosses in, and it was fun to watch them connect.” 

Lakeland (5-2) hosts Post Falls in an Inland Empire League match on Thursday.

SPIRIT LAKE — Evelyn Bowie scored in the 13th minute for the Hawks, her first goal since returning from a knee injury last year, as the Hawks held off the Tigers at Timberlake High on Monday. 

“We’re slowly getting her back to where she was last year,” said Lakeland coach Kevin Rogge of Bowie, who tore her ACL late in the 2023 season. “She got back in and got a goal, which was a big confidence boost for her.” 

Paige Rose and Aspen Lilliard also had goals for Lakeland (4-2). 

Lucy Simpson scored a goal for Timberlake (5-2), which faces Coeur d’Alene Charter today at The Fields in Post Falls.

“Both Brody and Apolo are similar players and really play with a lot of effort,” Lakeland coach Nick Haynes said. “We tried to focus on possessing the ball and moving the ball. Each goal came from hustle and somebody making something happen.”
