PREP VOLLEYBALL: Lake City finishes second at Freeman tourney

ROCKFORD, Wash. — Lake City led the way for local teams at the Freeman Rip-A-Shot tournament Saturday, going 4-1 on the day and finishing second after a 25-20, 25-14 loss to Chelan, Wash., in the championship match. 

Lake City went 3-0 in pool play, sweeping Newport 25-11, 25-14, Ritzville 25-20, 25-14 and Riverside 25-11, 25-14. In bracket play, the Timberwolves downed host Freeman 25-18, 25-12 before falling to Chelan.  

Camryn Woodman had 18 kills, 10 aces and two blocks for Lake City (8-2). Jessalyn Wilson added 27 kills and 11 digs, Daphne Neeley 29 digs, Taylor Winey 44 assists for the Timberwolves. 

“From start to finish, it was a great day of team volleyball,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “Our offense operated at a high level against Freeman and defensively, the girls did excellent with implementing the adjustments made at practice on Friday. Chelan was a great test of strategy and even though we fell short in the end, I’m very proud of the unity shown today.” 

Lake City travels to Post Falls on Tuesday for an Inland Empire League match. 

Lakeland, missing two starters, finished fourth.  

The Hawks beat Adna 25-19, 20-25, 15-6, beat Moses Lake 22-25, 25-17, 15-10 and beat Lewis and Clark 25-17, 25-20 in pool play. 

In bracket play, Lakeland lost 22-25, 25-22, 15-8 to Chelan in the semifinals, then fell 25-9, 25-22 to Freeman in the third-place match. 

Olivia Zazuetta had 126 assists on the day for Lakeland (7-3). Landree Simon had 12 kills against Adna, 11 vs. Moses Lake, three blocks and three aces against Lewis and Clark, 11 kills vs. Chelan and nine kills vs. Freeman. 

Addy Jo Hocking had 55 digs on the day. Alyssa Ryckman had eight kills vs. Moses Lake, nine digs against Lewis and Clark, 10 kills and five aces vs. Chelan, and seven kills vs. Freeman. 

Jolie Warren had three blocks against Adna, three blocks and three aces vs. Moses Lake, and two against Freeman. Freshman Anabel Bowie had three blocks against Moses Lake and Chelan, and two vs. Freeman. 

“Despite missing key players, our girls displayed remarkable depth and unity,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “They stepped up seamlessly, maintaining the high level of play that Lakeland is known for. 

“Jolie and Anabel filled in with impressive performances, showing that this squad is not just about star power but about collective effort and trust in one another.” 

Lakeland plays host to Moscow on Tuesday in an IEL match. 

Timberlake went 2-3 on the day, going 2-1 in pool play, then falling twice in a bracket for second-place finishers in their pools. 

In pool play, the Tigers beat East Valley 25-8, 25-16, beat St. Maries 25-21, 25-19 and lost to Freeman 25-15, 25-21.  

In bracket play, Timberlake lost to Ritzville 25-16, 23-25, 15-7 in the semis and fell to Adna 25-12, 25-17 in the third-place match. 

Mya Reynoldson had 22 kills nine blocks and eight aces on the day for Timberlake (5-6). Amarijana Oliveri had 14 kills, five blocks and 13 digs, Maci Sandbank 12 blocks, Rilynn Kaiser seven aces and 13 digs, Addie Archer 20 digs and six aces, Kaydence Edwards 40 assists, Isabelle Torr 21 digs. 

Timberlake travels to Genesis Prep on Tuesday. 

St. Maries went 2-3, finishing second in a bracket for those who finished third in their pools. 

In pool play, the Lumberjacks lost to Freeman 25-11, 25-6, lost to Timberlake 25-21, 25-19 and beat West Valley 25-17, 24-26, 15-12. In bracket play, St. Maries beat Riverside 25-12, 25-22 and lost to Pullman 25-15, 25-16. 

Mia Asbury had 19 kills on the day for St. Maries (5-8). Brenna Elliott had seven digs against Freeman, 10 assists against Timberlake, 12 assists and four aces vs. West Valley, nine assists and three aces vs. Riverside, five assists and two aces vs. Pullman. 

Raevyn Yearout had four digs vs. Freeman, five kills vs. Timberlake, seven kills against West Valley and five aces vs. Riverside. Allie Zook had 11 digs against West Valley and eight digs against Riverside. Meijah Yearout had four kills, Dimercia Spooner three vs. Timberlake. Naomi Mueller had four kills vs. West Valley. 

St. Maries plays host to Priest River on Tuesday. 


Post Falls at 

Richland tourney 

RICHLAND, Wash. — The Trojans went 3-2 and reached the semifinals. 

In pool play, Post Falls beat Riverside Christian 25-5, 25-6 and Pasco 25-7, 25-13, and losing to Mt. Spokane 25-17, 25-14. 

In bracket play, the Trojans beat Prosser 25-19, 25-19 in the quarterfinals, then lost 23-25, 25-23, 16-14 to Central Valley in the semis. 

Trinity Byrne had 22 kills and six blocks on the day for Post Falls (6-4). Tiffany Foxx had 15 kills, Lucy Carr 32 assists, Lexi Norisada 38 digs, Claire Ziegler and Vanessa Kison nine aces each. Down 14-9 and facing match point vs. CV, Kison rattled off five straight service point to tie the match. 

“We played well today,” Post Falls coach Matt Barkley said. “I was really proud of our girls that they showed so much grit and determination. Lexi was solid in the back row all day, and Tiffany Foxx had one of her best performances of the year.” 

Post Falls welcomes Lake City on Tuesday in an IEL match.

POST FALLS — The visiting Badgers rallied from two sets down to beat the Jaguars 21-25, 21-25, 25-17, 25-14, 15-13 in nonleague play at The Courts. 

Laya Daniels had 17 kills, six blocks and five aces for Genesis Prep (3-2). Madi Cooper had 11 kills, eight digs and four aces, Ella Martin four kills, four aces and six digs, Kennedy Prendergast 26 assists, five kills, four blocks, six digs and two aces, Pearl Covey 12 digs and five assists. 

“This was a hard loss,” Genesis Prep coach Paula Thurston said. “We played strong the first two sets and then fought so hard for the rest of the match. Bonners Ferry really turned it on in the third set, and took the momentum. We just couldn't finish it in the end. I'm proud of how hard the girls worked tonight; it was one of the fastest-paced games we've had so far and they really stepped up.” 

Genesis Prep is home vs. Timberlake on Tuesday.

COEUR d’ALENE — The Saints downed the visiting Chesterton Academy of Notre Dame from Spokane 25-15, 25-18, 25-22 in nonleague play. 

Coeur du Christ (4-2) plays at Genesis Prep on Wednesday.

CLARK FORK — Sophomore Nora-Jean Hoy had 13 assists for the Wampus Cats in a 25-23, 25-12, 25-20 loss to the Red Devils at Clark Fork High.

Junior Piper Scarlett had six aces and four kills for Clark Fork (1-6), which travels to Kootenai on Tuesday.

"When our passing was on, we were clicking well," Clark fork coach Lyndsie Kiebert-Carey said. "Once again, it came down to serve-receive. We'll be working to dial that in for some important matches next week."
