HOMELESS: Wages aren’t keeping up with inflation
Lori:
In your letter to the editor you state that it is your family members low credit score but then you mention two other things that you do not expand on. Those were her wages. She does not earn enough to pay the move in costs. I understand that. As someone who has had homeless family members who was homeless, I feel your emotions. I truly empathize, however I feel that it would do a world of good if the people would look at the reality that the homeless are not all addicts.
This has been a problem with getting shelters set up so they can get back on their feet. There needs to be the realization that the wages do not keep up with inflation in any state. The two men running for office in Washington by the way think that the homelessness is due to addiction and nothing else. Sadly too many are uninformed so the wage not keeping up will never change. Low income housing is not affordable — by whose standards? I wish the best for your family member and suggest that she look into a room through a private party in order to get a start toward getting back on her feet.
