| September 13, 2024 1:15 AM

RATHDRUM — It didn’t count in the league standings, but it was an impressive performance nonetheless.

Ziya Munyer had 11 kills, Landree Simon 10 and Alyssa Ryckman eight as the Lakeland Hawks swept the visiting Coeur d’Alene Vikings 25-21, 25-22, 25-18 in a nonleague match Thursday night at Hawk Court.

Olivia Zazuetta had 36 assists and two aces for Lakeland (4-1). Addy Jo Hocking added 17 digs and two aces. Munyer had six blocks.

“Tonight was a powerful blend of teamwork, defense, and offensive execution,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “This win was all about working together. We trusted each other on every play, especially in those tough moments when Coeur d’Alene put pressure on us. This is a fun group to coach and I’m very proud of them.”

Coeur d’Alene beat Lakeland 3-1 last week in an Inland Empire League match.

Badger also praised the play of Zazuetta, “whose court vision and quick decision-making kept the offense flowing smoothly,” she said. “She consistently set up her hitters for success, making smart plays and distributing the ball across the court, leaving Coeur d’Alene’s defense scrambling.”

For Coeur d’Alene (12-2), Paisley Goings had 10 kills, Gracie Legg and Camryn Farrar 12 digs each, Gianna Callari seven kills and three blocks, Lizzy Hardy 13 assists, Hannah Shafer six assists and two aces, Aiva Reed and Kaydence Green three blocks each, and Farrar and Bridget Maiani two aces each.

“Lakeland did a good job of controlling the net,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “Ziya really showed why she is going Division 1 (to Weber State); she blocked and hit well for them.  I felt like we competed at a high level. There were some great rallies, but things just didn’t go our way.”

Lakeland competes at the Freeman Rip-A-Shot tournament Saturday.

Coeur d’Alene returns to action Tuesday at Lewiston.

Camryn Woodman added 11 kills and four blocks for Lake City (4-1, 2-1 IEL). Daphne Neeley had 17 digs, Kate Moglia 18 assists and four kills.

“Still working on ironing out a few things, but happy to get a conference win,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “Looking forward to our first tournament this Saturday to spend more time as a team.”
