Tanya Lilley's eighth grade U.S. history students have been learning about the events of 9/11, how they shaped the nation and how America came together to overcome tragedy.

For a week, seventh and eighth grade students at Lakes Middle School brought in donations of homemade goods, treats, drinks and thank-you cards for the local fire station.

On Wednesday, 35 students volunteered to walk to Coeur d'Alene Fire Station No. 3 to deliver gifts and gratitude to the firefighters.

"It was just amazing to see the pouring in of donations and students taking their personal time to deliver them as an act of service," Lilley said.
