Equipment, signs vandalized on Coeur d'Alene Tribal land
No Trespassing signs on Coeur d'Alene Tribal land have been shot in part of a string of recent trespassing and vandalism instances.

COEUR d’ALENE — Just days after a new gate was installed to prevent trespassing on a stretch of Coeur d’Alene Tribal property, new equipment was damaged and No Trespassing signs were shot, according to Tribal Law Enforcement.
“This blatant disregard for Tribal property is deeply disappointing,” Tribal Law Enforcement said in a statement posted to Facebook.
Trespassing has long been an issue on this stretch of land east of Idaho Road starting at the intersection of Tekoa Idaho Road and known as “Stateline Patch.” The land is significant to Tribal members for hunting and gathering purposes, the statement said.
No Trespassing signs have been posted in the area for about two years to discourage trespassing and to protect big game resources, according to Tribe Legislative Director Tyrel Stevenson.
“Trespassing is a serious issue,” he said.
Tribal Law Enforcement, along with Idaho Fish and Game, are increasing patrols in the area and investigating the recent acts of vandalism, Stevenson said.
Though patrols are typically increased ahead of hunting season to begin with, patrolling officers will also be prioritizing putting an end to the recent surge in trespassing and vandalism on tribal land.
