PREP VOLLEYBALL: Lakeland picks up another big road win in league

| September 11, 2024 1:10 AM

LEWISTON — With Lewiston’s drop in classification this school year and next, the Lakeland Hawks have one more team to go through in their bid to advance to state.

In the first volleyball matchup with both the Hawks and Bengals in the same classification, Lakeland got 20 kills, three blocks and two aces from Ziya Munyer in a 25-22, 17-25, 25-11, 25-23 victory at Lewiston High on Tuesday night.

“This win is a result of everyone working together,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “We’ve been emphasizing teamwork in practice, and today it really paid off. Every player stepped up and contributed, and that’s what made the difference.”

Landree Simon added 11 kills for Lakeland (3-1, 2-1 IEL). Olivia Zazuetta had 40 assists, Addy Jo Hocking 17 digs, Lexi Levesque two aces for the Hawks, who won at Lake City last week.

“We came out strong in the first set, quickly establishing control with solid passing and aggressive attacks,” Badger said. “Lewiston fought back, but we maintained our composure, relying on strong defense and a balanced offensive attack to close out the match.”

Lewiston is 1-2, 0-2.

Lakeland plays host to Coeur d’Alene on Thursday in a nonleague match.

"Our serving percentage for the match was right around 94 percent, and with serving being one of our team goals, it is good to see us as a team continue to exceed our goal."
