PREP SOCCER: Viking boys find the angle, down Post Falls

• BOYS

COEUR d’ALENE — Coeur d’Alene did everything they could think of to get one in, but the Post Falls boys kept the goal locked up for the first 40 minutes.

So Coeur d’Alene went on the attack.

Senior Kason Pintler recorded a hat trick, all coming in the second half for the Vikings in a 6-0 Inland Empire League win over the Trojans under the lights at Viking Field on Tuesday.

“It was frustrating in the first half because we were knocking on the door, but couldn’t get in,” Coeur d’Alene coach Robbie Harmelink said. “At halftime, we told the players that the longer it was 1-0, the longer Post Falls was going to hang around. We started to find some of the right angles and our attack was a lot better in the second half.”

Pintler assisted on a goal from Liam Martin in the first half for Coeur d’Alene (5-0, 4-0 IEL), which hosts Moscow on Thursday.

“Kason is always going to find some space, but the question is if we’ll be able to get the ball to him,” Harmelink said. “He was clinical tonight and it was great to see him get the hat trick. He’s an important player for us.”

Post Falls (2-3-2, 2-2-2) faces Moscow on Saturday at The Fields in Post Falls.

“After a couple of games where we didn’t quite hit our stride, the boys stepped up and executed exactly what we asked of them, dominating the game from start to finish,” Lake City coach Chaz Donovan said. “Every player got significant playing time, and they battled until the final whistle. We’re still a work in progress, but I’m really encouraged by what I’m seeing in practice and how we performed today.”
