Keith Odenthal, 81
Keith Odenthal, a longtime resident of Coeur d’Alene, passed away Aug. 28, 2024, after a short illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Aurelina, sister Sybil McCormick, brother Brian Odenthal (Janice) and two sons, David (Kecia) and Joel Odenthal. Sisters Loretta Waide and Nickie Odenthal preceded him in death. Keith was a caring grandfather to Alex Odenthal (Beca), Quinton Odenthal and Cariera Odenthal. He will also be missed by several nieces and nephews.
Keith was born July 18, 1943, in Killdeer, N.D., to parents Alvin and Peggy Odenthal. He was the second of five children. The family settled in Coeur d’Alene in the late 1940s. Keith graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1961, attended the University of Idaho and enlisted in the Air National Guard. He went on to marry his first wife, Vicki Bening, and they had two children, David and Joel.
A passion for all things automotive was the hallmark of Keith’s life. His love of sports cars and racing led him to a 16-year adventure in leading a successful kart racing team with his sons David and Joel, where they secured five national victories and numerous regional and local titles. This fulfilled the completion of a lifelong dream that began when he raced go-karts as a teenager. He was a huge Formula 1 fan and was able to attend a Formula 1 race in Austin, Texas, in 2022. His knowledge of racing teams and drivers was encyclopedic.
Keith was also a lifelong Yankees, Boston Celtics and Rams fan. He developed a passion for running during the 1980s and completed three full marathons and numerous 10k events during that time. He was an avid reader and loved the music of Ray Charles and Pink Floyd.
A celebration of Keith’s life will be held Oct. 4, 2024, at 2 p.m., at Capone’s at the Ponderosa Golf Course in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. All friends and family are welcome to attend this event to share in his celebration of life. Please visit Keith’s online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
