Brett Allen Suckow, 60, of Mullan, Idaho, passed away Sept. 2, 2024, at The Schneidmiller Hospice House in Hayden, Idaho, as a result of injuries sustained in a serious ATV wreck. Brett was born Feb. 6, 1964, in Seattle, Wash., the son of John M. Suckow and Dawn E. (Garitone) Suckow-Summerkamp.

Brett attended schools in Mullan, Idaho, graduating from Mullan High School in 1982. He worked in the construction, mining and logging industries, but being in the woods, logging was his passion, and he was employed with various area logging companies throughout the years, making wonderful friendships. Brett never met a stranger. He was known for his kind and giving heart and worked, loved and played hard his entire 60 years on this earth. He experienced many challenges throughout his life but always had a strong faith and love for his family and friends. He loved rock 'n' roll; he enjoyed a good day fishing, cutting and gathering wood, and spending time with his dog, Grizz. When he could not return to work in the woods due to health issues, he enjoyed gathering wood and making home décor for friends and family. Brett was not married at the time of his death but had several prior loves, two of which blessed him with two sons and a bonus daughter. He recently became a grandfather as well, which made him very happy.

Brett was preceded in death by his father, John M. Suckow; his maternal grandparents, Dominick and Allene Garitone; his paternal grandparents, Oscar and Ruth Suckow; an infant son, his birth mother, Sharon Barnes; and a birth sister, Heidi Barnes Martinez, along with many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Dawn and Mike Summerkamp of Mullan, Idaho; a son, Drew (Mary) Suckow and his first grandson, Loch Lincoln Suckow of Haugan, Mont.; a son, Nate Suckow of Haugan, Mont.; a bonus daughter, Sarah Neal of Spirit Lake, Idaho; two sisters, Karla Welter of Rathdrum, Idaho and Sheila (David) Rhodes of Lewiston, Idaho; niece Emily (Joey) Nelson; and nephew Zachary (Shelby) Welter, and nephews Seth Rhodes and Sawyer Rhodes, along with great nieces and nephews; bonus brother, Ernie (Cathy) Lane of Jacksonville, N.C.; stepsister, Tammy Jackson of Rose Lake, Idaho; stepbrother, Shawn Summerkamp of Silverton, Idaho. He is also survived by dear cousins Nick (Melisa) Garitone of Kingston, Idaho, Jodi (Larry) Wilburn of Wallace, Idaho, and Tony Garitone, as well as cousins of the Aune family in Washington state.

Brett is also survived by members of his birth family as he was blessed with finding them years ago and established special relationships with them, including a half-sister, Shelley (Zane) Barber, and their children of Ronan, Mont., a half-brother, Troy Barnes in Alaska and the Weyanna Family in Alaska.

Services will be held honoring Brett on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, at 2 p.m. in Mullan, Idaho, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, with a gathering to follow. Further details will be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of the Mullan Library, Mullan Community Foundation, The Mullan Volunteer Fire Department, Mullan Museum or the Pottsville Park Fund.
