RATHDRUM — The Lakeland Hawks improved to 3-0 with a 41-20 victory over the visiting Weiser Wolverines (0-2) in nonleague play Friday night at Corbit Field.

Lakeland plays host to Frenchtown (Mont.) next Friday.

West Valley 35

Timberlake 18

SPOKANE VALLEY — The Tigers moved the ball on the ground, outgaining the Eagles 315-149 in rushing yards and compiling 27 first downs.

Timberlake had three drives stall in the red zone in the nonleague loss at Ward Maurer Field.

“We were able to move the ball really well,” Timberlake coach Kelly Amos said. “We had it inside the 10, but just couldn’t punch it in. We made some great progress, but weren’t able to finish it.”

Caleb Knight ran for 114 yards and Jonathan Hansen 114 yards and two touchdowns for Timberlake (0-3), which travels to McCall-Donnelly next Friday.

“Offensively, probably our youth is showing up a little,” Amos said. “West Valley is a really good team and they’re big and physical. It’s going to take some time to develop, but we played OK defensively.”

It was the season opener for West Valley.
