PREP SOCCER: Pintler pushes Vikings past Bulldog boys

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior forward Kason Pintler had two goals for Coeur d’Alene in a 4-1 Inland Empire League win over the visiting Sandpoint Bulldogs at the Coeur d’Alene High soccer field on Thursday.

Sandpoint’s Luke Leavitt scored in the 25th minute, the first goal allowed by the Vikings (4-0, 3-0 IEL) this season.

“That goal was really scrappy, but it didn’t faze us,” Coeur d’Alene coach Robbie Harmelink said. “We came out determined to play possession-based soccer and I was happy with the work ethic and attitude to keep pushing forward. The attitude after allowing our first goal was great to see and they just continued to push forward. Sandpoint’s a really good program and they’re good competition for us.”

Senior Keaton Gust had a goal and assist for Coeur d’Alene, which hosts Post Falls on Tuesday at Viking Field.

Sandpoint (2-1-1, 2-1-1 IEL) travels to Vallivue on Saturday.

“We had a couple of good opportunities, but either we’d hit it right to the keeper or get caught offside,” Lakeland coach Nick Haynes said. “We didn’t play our best game and the boys were a little tired from the heat, but so was Lewiston. We need to work on a few things and play a little smarter.”
