Nighttime project begins on I-90
PINEHURST — September is usually when people see road construction projects wind down, but a large project is about to fire up.
On Thursday, crews from the Idaho Transportation Department began a 9-mile, nighttime project where they are resurfacing Interstate 90 from Pinehurst to Cataldo.
Heather McDaniel, communications director for ITD, explained the project and what drivers can expect while it’s being completed in a press release Wednesday.
“This project will involve milling down the driving surface to remove fractures, ruts and flaws and replacing it with a fresh, smooth layer of asphalt,” McDaniel said. “Work will be performed at night. Drivers will experience single-lane closures during daytime hours where the roadway has been milled due to the difference in elevation between lanes.”
The project area begins just west of the Rose Lake, Highway 2 junction, and continues to Pinehurst. Crews will work from 6 p.m. through 6 a.m., Monday through Friday.
According to McDaniel, Exit 39 (Mission Road), Exit 40 (Latour Creek Road), Exit 43 (Kingston), and Exit 45 (Pinehurst), will experience intermittent closures during the project, which is expected to be wrapped up by early October.
“Roadside digital signs will inform drivers of specific information regarding ramp closures,” McDaniel said. “Drivers, especially motorcyclists, should exercise caution when accessing these ramps as they travel over between milled and un-milled lanes. This work zone will encompass ongoing work at the I-90 Coeur d’Alene River Bridges. Traffic control will be coordinated with the existing work zone to guide drivers through the area safely. “
